Karen embodies the belief that art is not just a label, but a way of living, giving, and connecting.

Karen Bevan

Karen Bevan wouldn’t necessarily call herself an artist, but creativity runs in her veins. A grandmother to her mokopuna and a loyal friend to many, Karen has, in just five years, embraced carving, painting, sewing, and crafting, quickly making a name for herself in the Rarotonga arts community. Her work ranges from pareu board commissions to pieces that delight locals and visitors alike.

Humble, generous, and full of heart, Karen has been a pillar of support for Te Toki Tupuna since its inception. She helped care for the space, brought her tools to make and maintain the workshop, and sold artworks for fellow artists, all while never seeking a spotlight. Community and family drive her, and her partnership with her granddaughter and buddy, Skye, exemplifies this spirit - together they create, learn, and bring joy to everyone around them.

Karen’s practice is inseparable from her relationships. When you think of Karen, you think of Skye; of family, mentorship, laughter, and generosity.
